To celebrate School Lunch Hero Day, on behalf of nurses everywhere, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you.

Your dedication and hard work often go unnoticed, but your impact on our students’ lives is truly remarkable. Your kindness and compassion shine through in everything you do. From greeting students with warm smiles to providing “share tables” and weekend backpacks of food for those in need, your actions make a world of difference.

In the hustle and bustle of our school days, it’s easy to overlook the essential role you play. Please know that your efforts do not go unnoticed or unappreciated. You are the unsung heroes of our school community — and today, we celebrate you.

Thank you for all that you do to ensure that no student goes hungry and that every student feels cared for, loved and supported. You are truly deserving of the title “school lunch heroes.”

Happy School Lunch Hero Day!

Anne “Anna” Svendsen-Ammons, RN, is president of the Montana Nurses Association. Born and reared in Racine, Wis., she moved in 1985 to Yellowstone National Park, where she lived and worked for 13 years. Svendsen-Ammons always knew she wanted to become a nurse, so she attended Montana State University as a nontraditional student in 2000. After obtaining her BSN and RN, she began working as a staff nurse at Billings Clinic in Montana and remains there today, still enjoying the blessings and challenges of bedside nursing.
